Rush Limbaugh Equates Pedophilia to Marriage Equality

It seems we can’t go for very long without some ill-informed pustule equating homosexuality to pedophilia.

Today’s pustule is none other than carnival barker Rush Limbaugh, who really ought to know better than to say incendiary things in order to Ann Coulter his way back to some kind of national relevance.

(In the interest of full disclosure, it was difficult to even type that while maintaining a straight face.  I think we all know that the King of Glass Houses is well adept at throwing stones in order to keep himself in some sort of jaundiced spotlight.  For example, Rush, whose weight would be perfect if he were 6’5″, which he most certainly is not, once implied that First Lady Michelle Obama was fat.  For example, Oxycontin Addicted Rush spoke passionately that drug users should be deported.  For example, Defender of “Traditional” Marriage Rush has been married four times, leaving us all wondering ~ Which one was the “traditional” one?  For example, Horny Rush was detained at an airport for having Viagra without a prescription, only to go on to call Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for even discussing contraception.  Oh, yeah, Rush was single at the time he was detained, prompting one to wonder exactly why he needed the Viagra and if a slut is simply any sexually active woman who isn’t currently sexually active with him.  Ahhh, the memories.  I could go on and on.)

But I digress.

Today I’d like to discuss Rush’s recent plea for attention when he deemed societal acceptance of marriage equality to be equal to the normalization of pedophilia.

I always find myself greatly concerned, alarmed even, when people equate homosexuality to pedophilia.

Not necessarily because this horrific line of thinking paves the way for violence against the LGBT community, which it does.  Not necessarily because it is a lie; a false comparison used by the hateful as a manipulative tool to infuse others with hate, which it is.  Not even because bears no relation to even the most basic understanding of human sexuality, which it doesn’t.

Nope.

I find it alarming because what it tells me is that person doing the comparing in no way understands the difference between a consensual and a non-consensual sexual relationship; between a manipulative and a non-manipulative one.  Frankly, it makes me wonder if the person doing the comparing is even cognizant of the definition of rape or the dynamics of a relationship in which power is severely or completely skewed towards one person.

Every time someone brings up this horrible, factually inaccurate equation ~ an equation guaranteed to propel easily swayed, ignorant listeners towards some kind of visceral reaction, I find myself thinking that someone ought to investigate the person making the comparison, as they clearly have no understanding of what it means to be in a loving, adult, sexual, consensual relationship.

I wonder what Rush’s first three wives would say to that.
