Happy 70th Birthday Michael Bennett

The opening of A Chorus Line.  Iconic for a reason.  I believe this grainy, hard to watch tape is the original company at the Public, before it moved uptown ~ possibly the first public performance (?).  Michael Bennett was a genius, taken entirely too soon by a plague that took ~ and is still taking ~ so many.  He would have been 70 today.  He died at 44.  Imagine what he could have done with 15 or 20 or 30 more years ~ what he could have created.  And imagine that you are sitting in a theatre in 1975 with no idea what was about to happen on that stage.  And you see this.  Like nothing you’ve ever seen before.  Such energy.  Such passion.  Such storytelling.  Such brilliance.
