The Jerry Sandusky Trial

This story should just be called “We’re Sorry About Your Childhood, But We Were Making A Lot Of Money Off This Guy.”

Former university vice president Gary Schultz may have known more than he let on. Penn State administrators may have kept a secret file about Jerry Sandusky’s wrongdoing. According to court documents obtained by CNN, Gary Schultz, the former vice president for business and finance at Penn State, allegedly “created, maintained and possessed” a file of documents that contained details about Sandusky’s alleged sexual abuse. The documents, which weren’t released by the Attorney General’s Office, could prove that the administrators knew more about the accusations against Sandusky than they originally told the grand jury. In the file, according to CNN, are “e-mails between Schultz, Curley and others that contradict their testimony before the Grand Jury.”

And what exactly is it the administrators may have known?  Below is some of the testimony ~

The prosecution then called the man known as “Victim 10.” The witness, now 25, testified that he met Sandusky through his charity “The Second Mile.”  He said he had last seen his own father when he was four-years-old and was living in foster care at the time.

“We were wrestling and the defendant pinned me to the ground, pulled my shorts down and started performing oral sex on me,” testified the man about an incident in the basement of the Sandusky home.

“I freaked out. I got nervous. I got scared,” he went on. “He told me that if I told nobody that I would never see my family again.” Later, the man testified, Sandusky apologized: “He [said he] didn’t mean it, and he loved me.”

He testified that on another occasion, he was riding in a silver convertible with Sandusky and, “He told me that he wanted me to perform oral sex on him and I told him no. He got displeased with what I told him. He made a threat to me.” Again, the witness testified, Sandusky later apologized, said he “didn’t mean to say it, and he loved me.”

The man said Sandusky assaulted him on other occasions in 1998 and 1999, including another time in the same basement that involved mutual oral sex and once in a swimming pool.

And from CNN, another victim’s testimony ~

“At first he would kiss me on the forehead goodnight,” Victim No.1 testified on Tuesday. “Then it was kissing me on the cheek, then rubbing my back and cracking my back.”

Sandusky’s roaming hands would later move to “rub underneath my shorts,” he said. The alleged abuse further escalated when Sandusky “put his mouth on my privates.

“I spaced,” the alleged victim said. “I didn’t know what to do.”

Later, the former coach allegedly told him that “it’s your turn,” he added. “He made me put my mouth on his privates.”

The man’s emotion-filled descriptions were often accompanied by tears, kicking off the second day of testimony in the high-profile child rape case.

Of course, we don’t have all the facts yet.  But how much information would you need before you went to the police?  How much proof?  Would you keep a secret file?  If any of this bears truth ~ either that Sandusky committed these hideous acts or that others knew about them and did nothing ~ the only question that remains is:  Who’s the bigger monster ~ the actual perpetrator or the people who stood by silently and allowed these things to happen ~ all in the name of money and a sports program?
